Anyone who has the privilege of celebrating retirement deserves a retirement party thrown in their honor and recognition for a life of hard work and achievement. If you are planning to host a monumental party for a soon-to-be retiree, here are some tips to celebrate the retiree’s many years of work and accomplishments.
GUEST LIST
The guest list is the foundation of every party, so compile a list several months in advance of friends, family, and co-workers who are close to the retiree. Go back through the guest of honor’s life and find former colleagues from years earlier or old college buddies who haven’t seen the retiree in decades–in other words, cast as wide a net as possible, since the party is a culmination of a person’s career. Let them look back on their life and all the people who’ve helped them along the way through years of work.
RETIREMENT PARTY VENUE
Your guest list, of course, will determine the location size required. Make sure to secure something with potential to accommodate more than you plan for, because you will want this to be big! For a party this important, people will want to make an appearance and participate in the festivities. Historically, invited guests accept invitations last-minute and plus-ones will become plus-twos or plus-fours.
ENTERTAINMENT
Consider the interest of the guest of honor and the type of music is appealing to them while being mindful of what will set a positive tone for the event. You might consider a DJ, Cover Band, or perhaps something more specific, like a Tribute Band. Whatever remains appropriate for the retiree, and the function should narrow your options when selecting the entertainment.
DECOR
This is one component where you can keep it simple! However, if the guest of honor’s taste call for something more elaborate (from exceptionally elegant to tremendously silly), then by all means do that. But for a party of such significance, the focus should remain on the retiree, rather than over the top and potentially unnecessary centerpieces. Renting a venue which already has backlighting, tables and chairs and overall attractive foundation in place is suggested. Let the soon-to-be-retiree, the guests and the occasion take center stage.
